VAN - Virtual Automation Networks
The term Virtual Automation Networks (VAN) describes the communication in heterogeneous networks also using Wide Area Networks (WAN) within industrial environments. This new topic is addressed in a European integrated project in co-operation with key players of the European automation industry. The central architecture for VAN was defined as an important milestone. For the definition of the architecture elements, the IEC conform description methodology is applied. The elements will be filled out regarding their responsibility of the work packages Realtime, Wireless, Safety, Security, Public Networks and Engineering. The definition of the demonstrators for factory and process automation was started. They will show the possibilities of VAN. The team at ifak is active in many tasks within the project as well as being responsible for work package WP2 ”Open Platform and System Architecture“ and WP7 ”Co-operation of private and public networks“.
