Waste Water Treatment Plants

The department „Water and Energy“ is developing methods and tools for the design and the operation of waste water treatment plants (WWTPs). The simulation software SIMBA (based on Matlab/Simulink) and – recently - the new software SIMBA# is utilised for the design, for the development of control concepts and the optimisation of plant operation.

Along with  development of simulation tools, it is important to provide methods to support design engineers for standard design tasks. One approach followed is the integration of dimensioning and design calculations into the simulation software (new in SIMBA#).

Special emphasis is given to combined simulation of processes and control. There still is a need to support the development of robust and well performing control concepts and especially to provide support to the transfer of developed concepts into real world automation systems.
