Planning Process and Tools for Step-by-Step Conversion of the Conventional or Mixed Bus Fleet to a 100% Electric Bus Fleet

PLATON

European and national laws have been continuously tightening air quality standards for years with regard to fine dust particles and nitrogen oxides in urban areas. The obligation to comply with air quality limits is prompting municipal transport companies to review their strategic planning for renewing their bus fleets by increasing the use of electric buses. The main objective of the PLATON project is to support the planning processes for the conversion of a conventional diesel or mixed bus fleet to a 100% electric bus fleet by means of web-based software tools. Due to the complexity of this topic, the planning tools are based on methods of simulation and optimisation of operation, charging infrastructure and timetable design, in which both the necessary expert knowledge and experience gained in practice are incorporated.

This project has received funding from the ERA-NET COFUND Electric Mobility Europe (EMEurope).
