Balanced edge cloud environments for sovereign component service systems in production applications, sub-project: Edge services for management shells

ESCOM

ESCOM develops a supplier-independent access for machine end users to services for installed machine components from the combination of openly available and largely standardised digital technologies. These services are offered in the form of digital services whose implementation takes place in edge cloud environments. Based on the know-how of the component manufacturer, the component services offer the customer customised solutions for effective machine operation.

ESCOM allows the application of component services in open, sovereign edge cloud environments in demand-driven market perspectives. This opens up greater market potential for component manufacturers, characterised by collaborative, interdisciplinary co-innovation in harmony with the machine manufacturer as OEM. The economic viability of the envisaged solution is given by the use of available and proven digital technologies. These include the Federation Services specifications of the Gaia-X initiative for a secure and sovereign data infrastructure in Europe. Furthermore, the concept of the management shell (VWS) of the Industrie 4.0 platform is used for the design of virtual representations of physical components - so-called digital twins. In addition, the further development of communication with IoT platforms or other software modules of product lifecycle management (PLM) and production planning and production control systems (MES) is taking place in ESCOM. ESCOM is also pursuing the transfer of necessary data models into a Gaia-X-compliant self-description by means of generic interfaces in order to strengthen the interoperability of technologies in Gaia-X-compliant data ecosystems.
