Quartz crystals can be used as mass sensitive chemical or biological sensors due to the modification of their surface. Using the experience within the development of such sensor systems, the experimental set-ups LiquiLab and GasLab were developed and have been continuously improved. The LiquiLab device can be equipped with up to 4 quartz crystals and the GasLab with up to 8 in order to continuously monitor specific interaction processes in liquid or gaseous phases. All the sensor reactions can be observed numerically or graphically on the control PC, which is connected to the microbalance sensor system by serial or Ethernet interface. Depending on the application purpose, specific modifications of the system, which is meanwhile used by several customers, are feasible.
