In October 2017, the president of Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU) and the director of ifak agreed on a multi-year cooperation. Since then, ifak, as an affiliated institute of Otto von Guericke University, has been supporting doctoral students from Hangzhou in eastern China and specialist colleagues from HDU have been working together with German partners on projects in the field of automation and "Industry 4.0".
On 13 October 2023, a five-member delegation from HDU led by President Wang Xingjie visited both Otto von Guericke University and ifak. A new cooperation agreement between HDU and ifak was also signed on this occasion. The visit of the Chinese guests included a city tour of Magdeburg, naturally including a visit to the monument of Otto von Guericke.
