The research project aimed to find practical solutions to allow the efficient design and programming of distributed applications in the automation area. Here, existing standards such as IEC 61131 will be the basis of the investigations. The standard shall be enhanced in order to cover an easy to use data exchange between the controllers, forming the set of collaborating nodes. The editing and description of the software technology was accompanied by a prototypic development in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed extensions of the standard. During the project a New Work Item Proposal was created. This proposal is in discussion in IEC standardisation groups.
