Without basic financing, the institute is financed from contract research for the private sector and public clients as well as from collaborative projects with industry within the framework of funded national and international research programmes.

The majority of the more than 50 employees are scientists in electrical engineering, (business) computer science, mathematics and physics. Together with the non-scientific staff, external scientists, students and guest scientists, the ifak employs about 90 people.
