Wireless Industrial Communication

Knowing why 5G, Bluetooth, DECT, LP WAN, WirelessHART, WLAN or other technologies are suitable for the factory floor, the machine, the process plant or other applications determines the economic success of investments.

Who has the choice, asks the ifak

"More and more things want to make life easier for us, but the growing choice makes it more and more complicated", Ernst Reinhardt (*1932), Dr. phil., Swiss journalist and aphorist

There are many wireless communication systems. Just as diverse are the possible applications in industrial automation, their conditions and requirements. Knowing why 5G, Bluetooth, DECT, LP WAN, WirelessHART, WLAN/WiFi, ZigBee or any other technology is suitable for the factory floor, the machine, the process plant or other applications determines the economic success of investments. The ifak supports decision making by methodically determining conditions and requirements as well as by answering specific questions about radio standards and radio implementations.

Evaluations of Industrial Wireless Networks

"Measure everything that can be measured and make measurable everything that cannot be measured", Archimedes of Syracuse, Greek mathematician, physicist and engineer

Radio systems in industrial applications are exposed to a variety of influences. These are not always taken into account from the outset. Changes can then influence the availability of radio communication. Various causes can be responsible for this, which do not always have to be based on radio transmission. The ifak supports operators of industrial radio networks by planning, specifying and carrying out evaluations of industrial radio network installations and by optimizing radio communication on the basis of systematic investigations of radio propagation and communication behavior. In addition, the ifak advises on the introduction of a coexistence management process according to IEC 62657-2.

Verification and performance tests of wireless solutions with high reliability requirements

"Trust is good, control is better.", Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870 - 1924), Russian revolutionary and Soviet statesman.

Proof of reliable function and compliance with limit values for time and error characteristics is of utmost importance for manufacturers of industrial radio solutions. This applies in particular to high device density, unfavorable transmission conditions or when several radio systems meet in the same frequency range. ifak supports manufacturers by planning, specifying and carrying out appropriate tests and advises on the evaluation of the results.
