Customized Services for the Water Management

Municipal 4.0

Within the framework of this cooperative research project, web-based platforms, application tools based on them and corresponding business models were developed in order to create innovative application possibilities of Industry 4.0 concepts for municipal operators of water management objects such as sewer networks, pumping stations, stormwater tanks and sewage treatment plants and to pave the way for digital transformation.

The integration of simulation-supported and model-based methods forms the basis as one of the core structures of this project. In addition to the realization of a secure, virtual platform for the development of regulation and control functions based on these concepts and a runtime environment for the execution of intelligent, data-intensive algorithms, which is also based on model-based methods, various simulation-based application tools were created and contributed to the introduction of new types of protective measures within the framework of IT security management. The research and development work was carried out in this area:

  • the transferability of model-based control concepts to next-generation automation technology,
  • the runtime environment for an intelligent and data-intensive control system
  • universal observer models and models for virtual commissioning as well as models for refining process information by merging online data with simulation data
