The main goal of the KOLINE project was the co-operative optimisation of traffic light control and driving characteristics in order to increase the efficiency of road infrastructure and comfort for the driver and simultaneously reduce the noise and pollutant emissions caused by traffic. With this, the traffic light system sends out the coming signal switchings and the local traffic situation to the vehicles via WLAN. The vehicles were able to use this information to select the optimal approaching strategy. In 2012, components and interfaces developed by ifak have been fully implemented in the cooperative system as a whole. The interaction between vehicle and infrastructure has been successfully tested in real traffic in the Brunswick test bed.
