The profile for field devices used in the process industry has been in some cases enhanced and improved. Hereby practical experiences were regarded allowing the improvement of the efficiency at the commissioning of field devices and to accelerate the data exchange between the field device and the commissioning tool. The functionality of the devices is defined in the form of blocks. The specification of PA Version 3.01 was already expressed in the descriptive language EDDL. The recent project will enhance the library containing all innovations ensuring a completely downwards compatibility.
