NewSan

The sanitation chain comprises of excreta “production”, the user interface (toilet system), transport and final disposal or utilisation of the excreta. In many countries, in particular those of the developing nations, the sanitation system is not a networked system. Recent years have seen a wide range of new concepts to reinvent the toilet. Within the “NewSan” project, the prototype of a simulator has been developed, which permits one to simulate and represent the resource fluxes in the entire sanitation chain. Furthermore, cost and energy aspects are being considered. The “NewSan” simulator is able to contribute to discussion and decision processes regarding sanitation systems under locally prevailing boundary conditions.
