Industrial applications are currently undergoing a paradigm shift from mass production of only slightly different goods to mass production of highly individualised goods. This paradigm shift requires efficient and automated distribution of relevant information throughout the entire production process.
In addition, the trend towards globalisation of markets and production continues, leading to a need for internationally deployable communication networks. This is a challenge due to different regulatory conditions such as available frequency bands and the availability of different communication networks such as WiFi, 5G and beyond, DECT or LP-WAN technologies.
Our new collaborative project EmKoI4.0, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, aims to provide methods and tools that support the research and development of convergent communication solutions over the life cycle of plants and industrial products.
