The market for fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) is growing at an above-average rate in Germany. The typically occurring errors in the production process, such as inclusions or delaminations, require reliable tests. A suitable method for non-destructive testing (NDT) builds upon microwaves. The aim of the research project was the development of a tool for the clear identification of defects by improving the recording techniques and the reconstruction itself. In the future, this will enhance the detection of smaller or critical defects. Together with the measured data acquired, an autonomous detection and high-resolution reconstruction of geometries and defects was developed. The project focused on FRPs with varying defect types and the algorithm-based (autonomous) interpretation of the measured reflection signatures
