The establishment of a GCP-conformant workflow for image management in the area of medical research was the objective of the AQUADIC project. A system consisting of different DICOM proxy components were specified and developed, to be used within clinical trials for testing, validation and correction of meta information of medical images (DICOM header). This approach reduces the manual work within clinical trials. Furthermore the project investigated extensions to the CDISC standard (CDISC = Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium) dedicated to the management of clinical studies. These extensions relate to a well-defined process of evaluating images within international clinical pharmacologic research work.
