The aim of this project was the development of standard tests to make a uniform assessment of industrial wireless solutions possible with regard to different classes of automation technology applications. As a result manufacturers have been given a tool in order to optimise early their wireless solutions specifically to an application class, and taking into account the prevailing industrial use conditions. Planners and users have been given the opportunity to better assess the reliability of radio communication and therefore the plant availability. In particular, the risk during coexistence planning can be minimised by providing uniform, application-specific parameters and values in order to achieve an efficient use of radio spectrum. The methodology and a system in order to carry out the standard tests have been presented to experts during a closing event. In consequence a working group of VDI/VDE GMA has been established in order to prepare a standardisation of the test methodology.
