Methods and basic technologies have been investigated in order to develop a unique assessment of the quality of service of industrial wireless systems. A concept of a diagnosis and failure analysis system has been developed that can be used by end users or service providers to support the commissioning and operation of wireless networks. Physical parameters and telegram parameters are gathered directly from the installed wireless solutions but also indirectly by additional equipment. Thus, independent of the wireless technology the user can get easy to understand information about the quality of the installed wireless solutions. Upcoming problems can be detected quickly so that failure analysis and recovery measures can be carried out before the entire wireless system and therefore the automation system fails. The results of the project have been shown by designing and implementing an evaluation platform of a diagnosis system.
