The central objective of BaSys 4.2 is the further development of the BaSyx Open Source Industry 4.0 middleware for integration into the continuous engineering of production processes. This allows to transform a production process at any time, i.e. to efficiently execute unplanned changes regarding the manufactured product, process or production resources. After an open Industrie 4.0 middleware with central components, such as the administration shell, has been implemented, further concepts and standards of the Industrie 4.0 platform will be implemented within the BaSys 4.2 project. The research work will focus on the three topics "middleware", "capabilities" and "virtualization" as well as their holistic view in the context of holistic engineering. Furthermore, a unification of the two domains manufacturing and process industry is to be achieved, among other things, by means of generally valid models for engineering data.
