An improved coordination of vehicles of police, fire brigades or ambulances shall be achieved by several technological measures. They include optimized route guidance for special task forces using traffic forecasts, cooperative infrastructure and traffic control in the event of incidents such as accidents, fires, natural disasters or even terrorist attacks. The aim of SIRENE is to improve and secure these processes through technological optimization. First of all, the routing of emergency services has to be improved, among other things by short-term traffic forecasts which can also take into account events that have just occurred. An influence on networked traffic light systems is used to prioritise special and emergency vehicles. The communication between vehicles, roadside infrastructure and traffic control centres which is necessary for such measures should include the joint use of available standards such as mobile radio, POCSAG, V2X (WLANp) etc. Ultimately, the aim is to maintain mobility for both rescue forces and the civilian population, even in times of crisis.
