In a predecessor project, the VertiKKA system - a vertical climate treatment plant has been developed. This is a concept for a multi-functional module for green facades, characterised by irrigation by greywater, electricity generation by integrated photovoltaic modules, protection of the plants against wind, hail and extreme temperature variations. VertiKKA represents a measure useful for climate adaptation and for increasing space and resource efficiency in urban space.
Within the VertiKKA2 project, the VertiKKA system will be implemented, among others, on a facade of a residential building in the city of Stuttgart. This implementation serves for refinement of the plant. The scientific contributions of ifak to tihs project include the adaptation and application of the dynamic simulator developed in the first project phase (simulation of water, energy and heat fluxes) for this Stuttgart application as well as performing related scenario analyses.
