In the research project MENDEL, optimization algorithms were developed in the course of the introduction of electric mobility in public transport. The aim was to minimize the operating costs by minimizing the consumption-independent power providing fee and the energy consumption of the electric buses during operation. Various sub-problems were considered to achieve these two overarching goals. These included strategic aspects in terms of optimal vehicle scheduling, tactical aspects in terms of optimal charging management and operational aspects of resource-efficient traffic control in transport companies. In this process, methods were developed which optimally coordinate the schedules, the infrastructure and the traffic control. For the concerns of the concrete operation, based on an existing charging infrastructure, an existing vehicle schedule and a known traffic control, methods were developed which take into account the circumstances for a cost and energy efficient operation.
