Object reconstruction in microwave defectoscopy

The market for fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) is growing at an above-average rate in Germany. The typically occurring errors in the production process, such as inclu­sions or delaminations, require reliable tests. A suitable method for non-destructive testing (NDT) builds upon microwaves. The aim of the research project was the development of a tool for the clear identification of defects by improving the re­cording techniques and the reconstruction itself. In the future, this will enhance the detection of smaller or critical defects. Together with the measured data acquired, an autonomous detection and high-resolution reconstruction of geometries and defects was developed. The project focused on FRPs with varying defect types and the algorithm-based (autonomous) interpretation of the measured reflection signatures
