The use of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) components in machine and plant engineering requires security- and safety-related protection. In contrast to conventional, proprietary fieldbus-based systems and control components, these allow a very high degree of flexibility. On the other hand, this leads to new attack vectors that must be closed by specially developed operational instructions and the use of specific guidelines that ensure cybersecurity in industrial automation and control technology through a holistic, process-oriented approach for manufacturers, integrators and users. However, corresponding standards such as IEC 62443 or ISO/IEC 15408 are quite complex. SUSTAIN wants to develop practice-relevant approaches to make the close interlocking of security standards with established standards of functional safety or the Machinery Directive manageable for both manufacturers and users.
