On September 24, 2025, the 55th meeting of the DWA working group KEK-7.3 “Energy analyses of wastewater treatment plants” took place in Magdeburg. The host was the ifak – Institute for Automation and Communication, represented by Leonie Echard. A total of 12 experts from research, practice, and industry participated in the meeting.
In addition to the technical work, the meeting provided an opportunity for an intensive exchange of views on current developments and practical experience relating to energy efficiency in wastewater treatment plants. One focus was the revision of worksheet DWA-A 216, also with regard to the Municipal Wastewater Framework Directive (KARL). The ifak was able to contribute its special expertise in the field of wastewater treatment plant simulation: The institute is developing the SIMBA# simulation tool, which now has a special block library for simulation-based energy analysis. The worksheet thus benefits directly from the ifak's experience in practical energy simulation.
