ifak presents world novelty at International Conference on Urban Drainage

From 25 to 28 October, the International Conference on Urban Drainage is being held - this time, due to Corona restrictions, as a purely online event.

ifak is represented at this important event with two contributions - one of the presentations demonstrates the user-friendly implementation of model-based predictive control (MBPC) for real time control (RTC) of sewer systems in the simulation system Simba#, which is used on a world-wide level. Until now, the simulation and test of MBPC-control concepts were possible only for experts using specialised software. Now, the simulation system Simba#, used on a worldwide level, is the only simulator allowing the user to model all three concepts of RTC of urban drainage systems (rule-based control; concept of generalised hierarchical controllers; model-based predictive control) within the same simulator in a user-friendly way.

The simulation and control concept is demonstrated on the "Astlingen" example sewer network of the DWA "Integrated Real Time Control" working group. Soon this contibution will also be available on ifak's Youtube channel.

A second conference contribution, presented jointly by colleagues of Technical University of Dresden and of UFZ Centre for Environmental Research, focusses on modelling of sediments in an urban catchment.
