MobISTeK-STICKIE

Sensor-based Telemedicine for Knee Endoprosthetics

MobISTeK-STICKIE

In Germany, nearly 150.000 patients get an artificial knee joint every year. The average length of stay for this kind of surgery amounts to 10 days. With a shift from inpatient rehabilitation to outpatient rehabilitation the length of stay might be reduced significantly. But the early and increased outpatient rehabilitation demands new devices, which are able to monitor the function of the artificial knee joint at home.

Therefore the project MobISTeK-STICKIE - originated from the ZIM cooperative network MobISTeK - focuses on the development of a self-sustaining sensor-based system, which allows for the monitoring of specific knee joint functions, the progression of the joint along rehabilitation time, the overall activity of the patient, and which is able to guide the patient to use his new joint correctly.
