Improved small-diameter TSS („AFS63“) modeling in sewer system simulation

Improvement of modelling approaches for small-diameter TSS („AFS63“) and integration in a sewer system simulator

Improved small-diameter TSS („AFS63“) modeling in sewer system simulation

The consideration of pollutants discharged from the (road) surfaces into sewer networks is increasingly gaining importance – a development driven also by the recent publication of the new A102 guideline document of German Water Association (DWA). Currently used modelling approaches for TSS, in particular for those with a diameter of less than 63 mm (“AFS63”), are not satisfactory. The project extends and refines these modelling approaches in order to consider accumulation, storage and resuspension of such pollutants in appropriate detail. The integration of such modelling approaches into a present-day sewer simulator will also allow the consideration of AFS63 within an integrated context (sewer system, WWTP, river). Model development in this project is supported by in-situ data sampled by TH OWL and by data of decentral stormwater treatment plants in the city of Paderborn.

With the implementation of such modelling approaches in a simulator, the application of the A102 guideline document will be supported.
