During the 19th plenary meeting of the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA), the application for a "5G-ACIA endorsed testbed" submitted by ifak together with 3 partners was accepted.
The 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) was founded in 2018 as a global forum to address, discuss and evaluate technical, regulatory and economic aspects of 5G relevant to industry. Of central importance to 5G-ACIA is the quality of industrial communications based on 5G and thus the testing and validation of 5G technologies. One activity of 5G-ACIA is the testing of test sites that investigate and demonstrate 5G technologies for industry.
In the test field "5G Performance Evolution for Material Handling in Manufacturing", ifak is working together with DEMAG Cranes & Components GmbH, NOKIA Solutions and Networks GmbH & Co. KG, Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG. In this test field, innovative intralogistics concepts such as the coordinated operation of cranes and automated guided vehicles based on 5G will be demonstrated over the next two years. Methodical investigations of 5G communication are intended to show the benefits and, if necessary, difficulties and thus contribute to further development.
