New project on semantic and digital interoperability

In 2020, the manufacturing industry (excluding the construction industry) accounted for 22.9 % of Germany's gross domestic product. This is the second-largest economic sector after services. The manufacturing industry is heterogeneous; with 2.3 million companies in this sector in Europe, 45 % of employees work in small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with up to 250 employees. These SMEs are under great pressure to innovate; in the context of Industry 4.0, companies expect a large number of new co-operation partners to be integrated into the value creation processes.

The DAVID project aims to ensure the reliable integration capability of the AAS and IT components in the Industry 4.0 data space. In addition to technological compatibility, the focus is primarily on semantic and digital interoperability, i.e. how the co-operative partners can understand each other in terms of the content and meaning of the data elements.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and will run for 26 months.
