Project ESCOM - Meeting of the Consortium Partners

On July 29 and 30, the consortium partners of the ESCOM project met. Our host and consortium leader, Berger Holding GmbH & Co. KG, invited us to Kempten — the perfect setting to reflect on the current status of the project and make progress together in workshops.

The thematic discussions on site were once again invaluable, something that no online meeting can replace. In addition to reviewing the current status of the work, workshop formats were used to define the work still to be done and to plan the first steps toward achieving it. One of these workshops was conducted by the PTW at TU Darmstadt and the ifak, which once again focused on everything related to the Asset Administration Shell. Why? Just a few days before the meeting, the Service-AAS concept was successfully presented by Viktor Berchtenbreiter of the PTW at the ICME in Nepal. With the prototypical implementation of the concept, it was now necessary to ask the questions whose solutions would enable the implementation of the Service-AAS concept in industrial practice.

During an interactive brainstorming session, questions emerged that potential users and integrators of the Service-AAS might consider if they want to pursue our concept. Some of the most interesting questions were:

  • What challenges arise when dealing with different databases and data formats for recording measurement series for optimal interoperability?

  • Who is responsible for integrating the transfer functions and segmenting measurement series from the component AAS into the service AAS?

  • How can composite services or entire service chains be modeled using the concept?

These and other questions show how complex and exciting the topic is. The exchange and cooperation in such meetings are invaluable. Many thanks to all participants for the productive discussions and the great atmosphere!
