The deputy chairman of the VDE Magdeburg, Dr Thomas Schallschmidt, subsequently presented a VDE sponsorship award 2022 to M.Sc. Mr Willem Biermann on 21/08/2023 for his master's thesis entitled "Multiphase boost converter", completed with very good results at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, IESY. The thesis was supervised by Dipl.-Ing. Dirk Fischer at ifak.
The thesis was written as part of the research project "HELLO - High-efficiency power electronics for solar-based pump systems in water supply", funded by the BMBF in the funding initiative kmU innovativ. The cooperation partners were EAI GmbH from Ilsenburg, oddesse GmbH from Oschersleben and the Institut für Automation und Kommunikation e.V. from Magdeburg. Using the example of environmentally friendly solar-powered water supply systems, Mr Biermann researched the potential and realisation possibilities of concepts for an efficient, high-frequency switching voltage matching stage that enables favourable adaptation of the solar voltage level to the pump inverter.
