ifak contributes to stakeholder seminar on urban development in Kigali/Rwanda

On 24 October 2108, a stakeholder conference was held on issues of rapid urban development in Kigali/Rwanda. This conference forms part of the BMBF-funded project "Rapd Planning", which develops a methodology and related tools to support rapidly growing cities in their strategic pre-planning of infrastructure systems for water, wastewater, solid waste, energy and urban agriculture, making use of potential synergies of these systems. In his contribution to this conference, Dr Schütze presented the work carried out at ifak on the development of a simulatiion tool, enabling to simulate and to visualise the relevant resource fluxes and to calculate important sustainability criteria. Modelling serves as a core element of a participatory strategic planning process.

The stakeholder conference was opened by the Mayor of the city of Kigali, Mrs Marie Chantal Rwakazina, who also expressed her strong interest in the "Rapid Planning" project in various individual discussions with member oft the"Rapid Planning" team.

In a scenario workshop on 25 October 2018, detailed discussions will be held with partners from Kigali on the definition of future scenarios as well as a validation of the present version of the simulator developed at ifak.
