Scenarios of future developments of Kigali, capital of Rwanda - ifak contributes to scenario workshop

Scenarios of potential future developments of Kigali, the rapidly growing capital of Rwanda in East Africa, were the topic of a scenario workshop held on 25 October in Kigali. ifak contributed significantly to the preparations of this workshop, which was organised by TU Berlin within the BMBF-funded project "Rapid Planning". After a short introduction into the context of the "Rapid Planning" project, group discussions highlighted current and potential future developments in the water, wastewater, energy, waste and food sectors. Participants of the workshop included, besides the German project team, representatives from the city administration, utilities and the national Ministry of Infrastructure of Rwanda. MSc Catalina Vieira moderated the active and well-founded group discussions by the representatives from Rwanda related to the water and wastewater system  of Kigali as well as those related to potential development sceanrios considering the water-food nexus.

The dicussion results are feeding into the setup of the "Rapid Planning"

simulator developed by ifak, supporting streategic transsectoral pre-planning of urban infrastructure systems.
