New project for real-time prediction of direct control in extrusion processes at ifak

Extrusion is a moulding process for the synthesis and recycling of plastics with complex dependencies on material properties and process conditions. The choice of parameters and troubleshooting in production are always costly and time-consuming. In particular, there is a lack of measurement technology and accessibility to fully monitor the materials in terms of composition, residence time and temperature.

As a solution, the joint SME project KI-KULT aims to develop an AI assistance system for spatially resolved visualisation of the material flow and for forecasting processes in extrusion lines. The aim is the real-time prediction of the mass distribution in the melt channel for the direct control of extrusion processes.

KI-KULT is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and will run for two years.
