Generative AI for automation and quality in software development

The rapid advances in artificial intelligence, particularly through large language models such as ChatGPT, are opening up enormous potential for German industry. In the area of complex software systems, generative AI methods can significantly automate and support the manual work of software developers. However, the experimental use of these technologies harbors risks, for example in terms of security, data protection and trust.

The GENIUS project aims to increase the efficiency of software development processes and significantly improve the quality of software products.

GENIUS offers innovative solutions for the software development process:

  • Automation and generation: AI-supported support from requirements management to quality assurance.
  • High-quality recommendations: Improvement of standards and knowledge transfer through targeted recommendations.
  • Conversion and transformation: Seamless handling of software artefacts, e.g. through refactoring and test case generation.
  • Documentation and communication: AI-supported documentation, summaries and chat-based team support.

With GENIUS, generative AI will become a central tool for strengthening the competitiveness of German companies and sustainably promoting economic growth.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the European EUREKA cluster initiative ITEA. The duration of the project is 36 months.
